Darkly atmospheric, the vocals and synths could be straight out of a J.G.Ballard inspired movie set in the early 80’s. The overlaid vocals are both intoxicating and mysterious blending deliciously into the mix of retro beat-box drum machines and analog synths. The sparing use of an echoing piano adds another layer to the authentic recreation of that pioneering sound.
Psychobuildings are among a new generation of songwriters and tunesmiths that are finding inspiration from a once maligned era of music. The return of the New Romantics? When it’s as good as this, pass me my green-tartan trousers, frilly blouse and scarlet lippy.
