On ‘Death to Modern Life’, Coventry based quartet Idle Noise have created something truly special; a powerful, emotionally charged single that perfectly encapsulates the political rage many of us feel at this unstable time.
Idle Noise have already established themselves as a noteworthy group through their acclaimed live shows, playing at iconic events such as Coventry’s prestigious Godiva festival. Now, as live music cautiously makes its return, the band have opted to release their best single to date.
I was shocked to find out the band’s first release was only in 2019 as Idle Noise perform with the confidence of a group who have practised together for decades. I feel everybody who listens to the track will be able to appreciate how tight, controlled and well-rehearsed it is and this certainly works in the songs favour. The band even shake up their classic Indie rock sound by adding significant details such as theatrical handclaps and a sing-along intro which creates an almost choral effect.
Despite this, the group have not strayed far away from their Indie sensibilities as ‘Death to Modern Life’ features some of the groups’ recognisable heavy riffs and catchy vocal melodies. It is also important to note the relevance of the song’s lyrics which rages about the failings of the government and how those with authority are rarely held responsible for their actions. I can’t praise this enough as it shows the group have matured from their earlier tracks and suggests they may be continuing in this direction.
In summary, I am very impressed with this new single and can only hope the rest of the Idle Noise discography will be up to this standard. I am certainly hoping to see this track played live in the near future.
