Having reviewed Glaswegian singer/songwriter Lizzie Reid’s previous single Always Lovely a couple of months ago and having enjoyed that offering, I was pleased to be asked to give my thoughts on her latest release Been Thinking About You.
The title of the song got me humming Thinking Of You by Sister Sledge for some reason. Maybe showing my age as I’ll soon be on the priority vaccination list. Been Thinking About You is another single which is a taster for Lizzie’s debut EP Cubicle which is out on 10th February.
The track has a haunting almost sparse opening, almost stopping and starting a few times before taking on a whimsical almost country like feel but by the first chorus Lizzie’s husky, almost whispered vocal has given it the classic smokey jazz club feel of years gone by. But the song has more surprises as it builds into a searing almost epic instrumental crescendo before slowly reducing back to it’s sparse quiet beginning ending on a single note.
Another fine offering from a talented young performer whose EP and any live dates (if we ever get back to normal) would be well worth checking out. With her mass of blonde curly hair Lizzie has a passing resemblance for a young Beth Rowley. I just hope we don’t have to wait a near decade for a follow up album from Lizzie though.
