Brighton-based singer/songwriter/musician Penelope Trappes can create soundscapes from many layers of acoustics, electronics and most crucially her voice. Her songs such as recent singles ‘Fur & Feather’ and ‘Nervous’ are sonic canvasses given endless time to breathe and mature, completely enveloping the listener.
Now ‘Blood Moon’ is the final release from her new album ‘Penelope Three’ and this time the stately pace is textured with an echoing piano and distant heartbeat. There is a vocal from the darkside, enigmatically intoning ‘….centre body and guide show me what to do… serve grace with trebles eye turn must push on through…’. The pace seems to pick up for the chorus ‘….I , I won’t lose….blood moon rising above, our love…’ as the vocal soars.
On the accompanying long-form video Penelope drags a comatose body through a night time car park, forming a hypnotic series of images. The overall impression is like an object in outer space that pulls the light in, never to escape, which is probably the intention.
