The Novus are storming their way across the local music scene. Into your minds, record collections and hearts, just four lads who are proving to be providing a promising future for the music of tomorrow. After moving into their new musical home in the heart of Birmingham during the 2020 COVID lockdown, the lads have finally released their much anticipated debut EP titled ‘Thaleia Standing’.
Produced by the legendary Gavin Monaghan (OCS, The Blinders, Robert Plant) at Magic Garden Studios, the EP consists of five brutally honest, raw, political and philosophical tracks with a range of influences from the Psychedelia of the 60s and 70s to the punk and new wave bands of the 80s.
Setting the tone of the EP, ‘I Serve Not’ begins with a Joy Division-esque atmospherical attitude to it before the vocals and lyrics arrive to confront the audience. Commenting on everything from the state of the high street, to further political commentaries on the state of modern Britain.
Following on from this, the tracks ‘Hate is the Cancer’ and ‘Overdriven’ are sure to get the adrenaline pumping, providing more angry, energetic feelings to the EP – perfectly showcasing what this band is capable of… Music that makes you think, feel and act…
To close the EP, the slightly slower, more reflective track of ‘Castaway’ precedes ‘Journey (With No End)’. Both of the final two tracks comment on a sense of dissatisfaction with life, with how those around us seem to turn out. A sense of hopelessness masked in a fierce, alt rock swagger.
Overall, ‘Thaleia Standing’ is a beautiful, raw and energetic piece of art and should propel The Novus into a new musical dimension.
Keep your eye on this band, dont be left behind.
